texTure MMS - FAQ and Notes

FAQ

"Why 'texTure'?" - Because you're texting a picture......well, we thought it was clever.

"Can I receive MMS messages?" - Ahh, the golden question. Kind of. Until Apple offers MMS support, it is not possible to receive true MMS messages on the iPhone. Period. But, if you send an MMS message with texTure, any replies to that message (even ones with pictures in them) should come to the email account you used to send it. So if you have that email account configured on the iPhone's mail app, and have "Push" enabled so that you're instantly notified when you have email, and close your eyes and click your heels......it's almost the same thing!

"Do these messages cost money?" - Not for you. All messages are sent as email from our servers, so you'll incur no messaging charges. Your recipients may incur charges depending on how you send the message though (MMS/Weblink).

"Do I really need to know which carrier my friend is on?" - Unfortunately yes, for now. We are working on automatic carrier detection, but in the meantime, once you know your friend's carrier, texTure will remember it so that you only have to ask once.

"Can I send to someone with a carrier that's not on the list?" - We're workin' on that too. If you'd like to send to a provider that we don't support, please write us at contact@oysterms.com and let us know, and we'll try to include it in the next update.

"How many people can I add to each message?" - As many as you want, but be aware that messages with many recipients take longer to send.

"What's the difference between the ways I can send messages?" - There are two ways to send a message to someone. "MMS" will send the message as a standard multimedia message, for recipients whose phones support MMS (most phones fall into this category). "Weblink" will send an SMS notification to your recipient, with a temporary link to a webpage where they can view your message; this is useful if you're sending to a phone that does not support MMS (*cough* iPhone *cough*).

"Can I send to people in other countries?" - Not yet, but we're workin' on it.

"What are you going to do when Apple releases 3.0 with MMS capabilities?" - Stick our heads in the sand and cry. Actually, we hope to continue to come up with ways to make texTure more useful, especially for iPhone 2G folks who won't have access too MMS with the 3.0 update.
